Advancing Knowledge Through Ethical and Collaborative Research
At the Scientific Societal & Behavioral Research Center (SSBRC), we are committed to advancing knowledge through research that is ethical, inclusive, and grounded in public good. Our work prioritizes the safety, dignity, and well-being of everyone we engage with vulnerable populations and community partners while fostering collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
Advancing Knowledge Through Ethical and Collaborative Research
Our Standards: Ethics, Safety, and Public Trust
To uphold the highest standards of community-centered and responsible research, SSBRC ensures that research team members complete Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) where their roles involve direct interaction with communities or vulnerable populations. This practice aligns with expectations set by institutional, governmental, and community partners.
In addition, members involved in research activities hold TCPS 2: CORE certification in research ethics. Together, these safeguards reflect our commitment to integrity, accountability, and public trust, and demonstrate our readiness to engage in ethically sound, collaborative research initiatives.
SSBRC maintains a roster of ethics-trained research members and volunteers who meet institutional requirements for community-engaged and applied research.
Our Mission in Action: Research Collaboration
We believe that societies improve and thrive through genuine research collaboration.
As a not-for-profit organization, SSBRC is uniquely positioned to partner openly with communities, policymakers, academic institutions, and global collaborators without conflict of interest. We believe the deepest and most meaningful understanding emerges when rigorous, objective research is combined with real-world experience and lived perspectives.
Our collaborative research initiatives are designed to generate knowledge that informs policy, strengthens communities, and contributes to sustainable, evidence-based solutions.

We Welcome Research Volunteers
The strength of SSBRC lies in its diverse and dedicated team of volunteer researchers, educators, and professionals. Our volunteers contribute their time and expertise not for financial gain, but for a shared passion for discovery and a commitment to advancing research that serves the public good.
Research volunteers may participate in study design, data collection, analysis, knowledge dissemination, and collaborative projects while gaining meaningful experience in ethical and interdisciplinary research environments.
Publishing and Knowledge Dissemination
As part of our commitment to open and accessible knowledge, SSBRC publishes the Scientific & Societal Behavioral Research Journal (SSBRJ) - a single-blind, peer-reviewed, open-access journal with no article processing charges (APC).
Researchers, collaborators, and practitioners from around the world are invited to submit original interdisciplinary work that advances understanding of societal and behavioral issues.
